Cooper Chapman (North Narrabeen, NSW) went from strength to strength today, claiming the Wild Surf Co. Mattara Pro today at Bar Beach.

As the fifth event on the prestigious Hurley NSW Championship Circuit for 2009, the Wild Surf Co. Mattara saw some of Australia’s best junior surfers going ballistic today in small, blustery conditions.

Defeating Rory Jenkins (Cronulla, NSW), Nic Blom (Harbord, NSW) and Zac Scott (Cronulla, NSW), who finished second, third and fourth respectively, Chapman continued on from his amazing third place performance in the Open Men’s division.

Accruing a total heat score of 15.17 (out of a possible 20), Chapman walked away with $250 in cash and another trophy to sit on his already well adorned cabinet.

“I’m stoked with the result,” he said.

“It has been a massive weekend for me and I’m glad I finished it off with a win.”

Currently ranked the best 16 years and under surfer in country, Chapman has been on a tear in 2009 something which puts down to consistency, a good support network and good equipment.

“It has been a great year,” he admitted.

“I feel like my surfing is consistently improving and my boards at the moment also compliment this,” he added.

“Plus my Mum and Dad are really supportive and help me out a lot.”

Joining an honour roll that reads like a who’s who of Australian surfing, including the likes of Michael Peterson, Nat Young, Mark Richards, Damien Hardman, Tom Carroll, Shane Powell, Chapman surfed in every round of competition over the two-day event.

“I felt comfortable out there this weekend,” he continued.

“I’m tried now, but it’s worth it!”
