Sally Fitzgibbons, Minister Greene, Layne Beachley and Minister McKay were on hand today to officially launch the new Tourism NSW and Surfing NSW initiative that recognises the NSW coastline as Australia’s surfing coast.

A new tourism initiative, which recognises NSW as the premier stretch of coast in Australia, was officially launched today at Manly.

In an initiative, which has partnered Tourism NSW and Surfing NSW together a host of surfing and political luminaries were on hand to celebrate this new venture.

Unveiled by Minister for Tourism Jodi McKay, with the help of seven-time ASP World Champion Layne Beachley (Manly, NSW) Sally Fitzgibbons and Surfing NSW CEO Mark Windon, www.surfthecoast.com.au was launched in style.

“Today was a great day for surfing within NSW,” said Windon.

“This website will allow everyone the opportunity to learn to surf and enjoy the world’s most beautiful coastline,” he continued.

Designed with the hope of pushing people towards the best coastal destinations in the state and Surfing NSW accredited surf schools, www.surfthecoast.com.au is a coup for the state’s governing body.

“We are proud and excited about this website and our partnership with Tourism NSW,” Windon added.

“Hopefully this will grow and flourish as time goes forward.”

Ms McKay was also happy to be associated with this new partnership.

“Surfing and beach culture is a vital part of our national identity and it’s a great way for visitors to connect with local people and our lifestyle,” Ms McKay said.

“This is a great way to tap into this interest and to ensure we position NSW as the premier surfing destination in Australia.”

Being home to some of the world’s premier surfing destinations and best surfers, www.surfthecoast.com.au allows to find the best place to stay, play, surf and rest up and down the NSW coastline.

Ms McKay said the initiative will include a designated Tourism NSW surf website as well as advertising and promotions in a number of surfing and tourism publications.

“Tourism NSW has partnered with Surfing NSW and with surf schools around NSW to promote our local beaches and encourage visitors to embrace one of our country’s favourite pastimes,” Ms McKay said.

“We are also home to 32 designated surfing schools in the country and these centres provide a professional and safe environment for everyone to learn to surf and enjoy the coast.”
