Kobi Graham Benefit Bash.
Over 170 people turned up at the Bavarian Bier Cafe Bondi last Friday June 25 in support of Bronte local Kobi Graham, who broke his neck on Slabbing Sunday May 30 in that horrible wipeout at Ours. Watch the vid here or read the news feature story here
While Kobi was extremely lucky to retain full use of his limbs, he is still looking at a solid six months plus out of work recovering. Money raised from ticket sales and donations at last Friday's benefit are going directly to Kobi to help him through his recovery and rehabilitation.
Wow, what an afternoon it was! I'm in no doubt that Steins of beer and Midori cocktails caused more than a few sore heads on Saturday morning! Over 170 people turned up at the Bavarian Bier Cafe Bondi to lend their support to Kobi's rehabilitation.
The venue was filled to the gills with a large slab of Sydney's Eastern Suburb's surfing community, high powered execs and celebrities. Friends and strangers came from as far as Yamba and Melbourne to see Kobi looking smart and happy with Rose, Bluey and stunning girlfriend Alex at his side.
There were a bunch of stunning female models at the benefit, thanks to Lisa Kelly. Those ladies rocked it, even when the sound system didn't!
Craig Markham, MC, was in fine form, his digs at the Bondi Rescue boys leaving most in stitches.
Gary Blaschke, of the Disabled Surfers Association put our personal trivialities into perspective as he told us about the disabled men, women and children he takes out into the water. Tania Smith, of the Association, explained her feeling of exhilaration when she has the opportunity to leave her wheelchair behind and go surfing.
Mick Hart performed superbly. Comedian Steve Philp wrote off everyone from Lara Bingle to the Channel 10 execs who attended the lunch. Even Channel Nine exec David Gyngell was there supporting a fellow local surfer.
The afternoon proved once again that our community is more than just "Bondi man." The beach, the grassroots, the locals, from Bondi to Maroubra we came together to help a mate who's been dealt a bad hand.
A special thanks must go to Matt Head and Brad Malyon for putting the afternoon together, the Bavarian Bier Cafe Bondi for everything from the venue to the apple strudel, Stan 'the man' Peters on the camera, Harries Skunka Beast and all who turned up and had a great afternoon.
Kobi would also like to thank everybody for coming and to everyone who donated for the raffles and auctions including Kim Sundell and Billy Morris from Coastalwatch.
While we can't name everyone who supported Kobi we will give it a good go!
In no particular order thank you to:
