STELLAR FIELD FOR NOOSA’S BIGGEST EVER STAND UP PADDLE DIVISION

STELLAR FIELD FOR NOOSA’S BIGGEST EVER STAND UP PADDLE DIVISION
The Laguna Bay Longboards Stand Up Paddle division at the Noosa Festival of Surfing is expected to be a battle royal between most of Australia’s leading paddle surfers and some of the top
With the division due to close on Monday, March 7, a flood of entries has been coming in. In the Open Men’s Pro, reigning Australian champion Jackson Close will be the one to beat, with NSW champion Ben Apps also a contender, and outstanding all-round waterman Beau Nixon a definite threat. If the swell is up and local knowledge comes into play, Noosa’s Woogie Marsh and event sponsor Tully St John will be in the frame too.
The first ever Senior SUPS (Over 45) has proven very popular with only a couple of spots to be filled, while the Women’s is also starting to fill up. Queensland’s Jenny Ryan, runner up in last year’s Australian titles, is current favourite, with New Zealand’s Maria Kingi the dark horse.
The Laguna Bay Longboards SUPS will get underway on Sunday, March 13 at Main Beach, Noosa with a five-kilometre loop race. Competitors will hug the shore for each of the one-kilometre legs, with a beach sprint between each of them, guaranteeing a spectacle for the big crowd expected for opening afternoon.
Feature events at the Noosa Festival of Surfing, presented by Global Surf Industries, include ASP Longboard Qualifying Series events the Golden Breed Mens Pro LQS and the Revo Eyewear Womens Pro LQS.
