Stephanie Gilmore Partners With Nikon And Surfing Australia

Thursday November 3, 2011 / SYDNEY: Four-time world surfing champion and photography enthusiast, Stephanie Gilmore, was at Bondi Beach today, to announce a three-year partnership between Surfing Australia and Nikon.

The partnership sees Nikon become the official camera of Surfing Australia, with world-class surfer Stephanie Gilmore on board as the ambassador for Nikon’s COOLPIX AW100 waterproof, freezeproof and shockproof camera.

To solidify the partnership, Stephanie is revealed as the face of Nikon Australia’s first locally-produced marketing campaign that builds off the brand’s global ‘I AM’ strategy.  This sees Stephanie sitting alongside international stars such as Jamie Oliver as a Nikon ambassador, with the campaign including a locally-produced TVC, print campaign, online activity and point-of-sale.

Stephanie joined Surfing Australia’s Andrew Stark in Bondi today to celebrate the partnership and show off some examples of her photography.

Andrew Stark, Surfing Australia CEO said: “Surfing and photography go hand in hand as both are about capturing that one beautiful moment that you can’t recreate. We’re delighted to partner with Nikon.  We have found Nikon product to be pretty unbeatable and we’ve all put it through its paces, so we really believe in the Nikon brand which is why we chose Nikon as our camera partner. Through the partnership we look forward to bringing Australia’s surfing community some exciting photographic and film content, as well as various partner benefits over the coming years”

Stephanie adds: “I’ve always loved photography since the days of film SLR’s. I’ve had a COOLPIX AW100 waterproof camera since it launched and am loving how it allows me the flexibility to express my creativity. I take it everywhere, even out in the surf. While I’m far from being a professional photographer, photography is a huge part of my life in terms of helping me relax, documenting my travels and capturing those special moments.”

Nick Segger, Senior Marketing Manager, Nikon Australia comments: “We’re thrilled to be the camera brand that Surfing Australia has chosen to partner with.  This partnership brings together two of Australia’s greatest passions – the beach and photography.  Through this association, we’re excited that Stephanie is on board as the face of the COOLPIX AW100.  Steph embodies everything there is to an active, outdoor lifestyle, and given her keen interest in photography, it’s the perfect fit.  After the success of our global I AM campaign internationally, it made sense to work with Steph in our first locally-produced component of the campaign.”

Also announced today is the call for entries for the much-anticipated Nikon Surf Photo of the Year and Nikon Surf Movie of the Year awards as part of the Australian Surfing Awards. For more information or to enter the awards visit mynikonlife.com.au/surfingaustralia

Launched in August, the COOLPIX AW100 is waterproof to approximately 10 meters, shockproof to approximately 1.5 meters and built to withstand temperatures as low as −10°C (14°F). With a 16mp CMOS sensor, the Nikon COOLPIX AW100 is one of the slimmest, truly waterproof compact digital cameras available. Additional features like full-HD movie recording, GPS support, electronic compass and map display ensure you’ll never be out of your depth no matter how far you roam.

From next week My Nikon Life will feature exclusive content such as the Australian made TVC and also a behind the scenes glimpse of the filming. See mynikonlife.com.au/surfingaustralia for more details.

On sale now, the COOLPIX AW100 RRP is $449.  For more information on the COOLPIX AW100, please see: http://mynikonlife.com.au/gear/digital-compact-cameras/aw100
