Queensland Surf Grommets Gear Up For A Wahu Weekend!

8 Dec 2011 0 Share

Gold Coast, Queensland, Thursday, 8th December 2011: SUMMER is here and the region’s top up-and-coming grommet surfers are all set for the Gold Coast Wahu Surfer Groms Comp this weekend, with close to 100 frothing youngsters entered in the event.

Running from December 10-11, the exciting junior event has divisions catering for the micro-groms in the U/9 Parent Assist division, through to some seriously competitive surfing action in the U/15’s division.

After high interest in last year’s combined U/9 Boys and Girls Parent Assist division, the water babies of the event now have separate Boy’s and Girl’s Parent Assist divisions.

Surfing Queensland Events Manager Adam Yates said the Wahu Surfer Groms Comp is a great introduction to competitive surfing, with the main objective to get kids active and having fun.

“The Wahu Surfer Groms Comp is a perfect opportunity for Mum and Dad to introduce their kids to surfing and get them hooked for life,” said Yates.

“With the high number of entrants in this weekend’s event and the majority of divisions being full, the depth of surfing in the region is looking very strong,” he said.

Divisions include: U/15 Boys and Girls, U/13 Boys and Girls, U/11 Boys and Girls, U/9 Boys Parent Assist and U/9 Girls Parent Assist.

Kyuss King (Snapper Rocks, Qld), Kaya Horne (Burleigh Heads, QLD), Dextar Muskins (Kirra, QLD), Kiani Dobbyn (Palm Beach, QLD) and Jamie McNeven (Tugun, QLD) will be some local surfers to keep an eye on this weekend.

There will also be loads of prizes, giveaways and tons of beach games, with each entrant receiving a Wahu Surfer Groms Comp t-shirt, plus go into the running to win Wahu beach products through daily awards and giveaways.

Competitors and spectators are encouraged to call the Surfing Queensland Event Hotline on Ph# (07) 3030 6388 after 6:30am each morning of competition.

The Wahu Surfer Groms Comps is proudly supported by Wahu, Surfing Australia and Surfing Queensland.
