Rad to the power of awesome it's Friday and this is Week 2 of the least important column in the world of surfing, Coastalwatch's This Week in Surfing and… The place to catch up on everything you don't need to know from the past seven days of ocean related wave riding activities. So what's happened? Well, let us tell you...

In what was a victory to warm the hearts of Australian surfers everywhere, our favourite Australian Irish surfer from the Central Coast , Glenn "Micro" Hall, took out South Africa's Prime event, the Mr Price Pro Ballito. After finishing second in the 6 Star Prime at Trestles and taking out a 4 star competition in China earlier in the year he is now sitting at 16th in the One World Ranking. At 30-years-old, Hall's first berth to the World Tour is pretty much his for the taking. To reward him with the biggest win of his career the good people at Mr Price Pro presented him with the biggest medal in surfing history. Believe the hype!

The Billabong Pro J-Bay is underway and it's been oh so very good. Much to the disappointment of surfing fans and the superstars of the sport the comp isn't being run as a World Championship Tour event for the first time since 1997. A fact made more bitter by the near perfect forecast for the week.

Relishing the opportunity to compete in the event have been surfers of the qualifying series like Nathan Hedge who showed the world what's what in his first heat, unleashing some critical backhand aggression to post the first 10 of the event. World Title contenders John John Florence and Jordy Smith are looking strong, but clearly the highlight of the event will be this soul-arch-high-line from surfing's newest cult hero, Heath Joske. Check the clip below and consider the last time you saw someone having this much fun in a competitive heat, while sporting a beard that epic. Heath Joske, Coastalwatch solutes you.

Jake Patterson, Matt Hoy, Mark Richards, Martin Potter
and Tom Carroll were in Bali auctioning replicas of their most iconic boards to help clean Bali's beaches. They've already raised around $35,000 but you can still bid on the boards at hoyshow.com. Bidding closes at 6pm AEST tonight (July13th), so get over there right now if you want a piece of the action.

The waiting period for the Roxy Pro Biarritz is on and while their male counterparts have been out in perfect Jeffrey's Bay, the women's competition has begun with three lay days of flat oceans. It's worth keeping an eye on as either Steph Gilmore or Sally Fitzgibbons could be leaving the country with a World Title trophy in their luggage by mid next week.

Italian 14-year-old Leonardo Fioravanti won the Skullcandy Oz Grom Open at Lennox Head beating his Australian pal Mikey Wright. But more impressive than that was a couple days later when this clip of the kid dropped onto the internet, basically saying, "Ciao mondo, sono veramente bravi a navigare."

Professional big wave surfer Maya Gabeira has surfed nude for ESPN's Body issue. We don't know what the big deal is, SW editor Vaughan Blakey surfed nude at The Pass in Doped Youth back in 2002 and no-one seemed to care.

And lastly, the best surfer in the world (if you don't include Kelly Slater, John John Florence or Derek Hynd) Dane Reynolds will be inducted into the Surfing Hall of Fame alongside
Rabbit Kekai and Andy Verdone. What's that mean? It means he'll have his hand and footprints imprinted into cement at Huntington Beach next to legendary surfers like Laird Hamilton, Simon Anderson, Andy Irons, Jack O’Neill, Robert August, Bob Hurley and Kelly Slater. Let's just hope he has to make a speech like he has at previous Surfer Poll awards. www.hsssurf.com
