THIS WEEK IN SURFING and... World Junior Champions

12 Oct 2012 0 Share

It's Friday night. Go home. Call your mum. Hug your loved ones. it's been a tough week for us all. At Coastalwatch we understand that, so we want you to kick those shoes off, get comfortable, and catch up with everything that happened this week on the internet of surfing. At your leisure....

The Oakley World Junior Championships have been running at Keramas in Bali, where you can sit in a pool, sip cocktails and watch all the action happen. Seems everyone there are having times best described as dreeeaaaamy!

But it's been most dreamy for Phillip Island's own Nikki Van Dijk, who believe it or not, is the new Women's World Junior Champion! Coastalwatch is proposing that the Bass Coast Shire put up some sort of statue in the middle of Cowes or in one of the car-parks at Woolamai. Yay Nikki!

Another stand-out performance was that of young Jack Robinson. Sure he lost in round 3 to Keanu Asing, but he took out the defending World Junior Champ Caio Ibelli in a very mature performance. And he's just 14 years old. Yay Jack!

The Rip Curl Pro Portugal has started... slowly. Two lay-days, but that didn't stop the presses over here with the launch of The Sardine. A scratch journal put together by Coastalwatch and Surfing World. Have a flick. Issue 1 can be found here (Coastalwatch | Coastalwatch Plus ) and word on the beaches of Peniche is that the comp will run through the weekend and be over on Tuesday. Yay ASP!

So, also, this happened. Shane Dorian is super crazy, if you didn't know that already. Yay Shane!

Taylor Steele has released the trailer to his latest film, This Time Tomorrow. The film stars Craig Anderson and Rasta as they track one swell all over the world (just so happens to be that Code Red swell, yikes). Expect some beautiful surfing, some beautiful travel scenery, and an all round beautiful surfing travel movie. Yay Taylor!

This premieres next Friday in Sydney featuring a QnA with Taylor, head here for more details.

SurfAid Schools has a brand spankin' fandangled shiny shiny new website. They do a lot of amazing work in the Mentawai region as well as developng an awesome global education program based around surfing and the surfing lifestyle. The site is worth a geeze to say the least. Check it out for more photos, news and resources. Yay Surfaid!

11 year old Kyuss King has been over in the land of opportunity (America!) and he is ripping! Yay Land of Opportunity.

Oui, Ace Buchan surfs France. Yay Ace Buchan!

And, to wrap things up this week, have a gander at Jeremy Flores surfing the wave he will be surfing this weekend. Let's hope it gets this golden. Yay Jeremy! Yay Supertubos! Yay weekend! CW out.
