THIS WEEK IN SURFING and... Hey Autumn, wassup?

Arranged by Mike Jennings

Hey everyone. What a great week. Clear Autumn sunshine and all that. Great. Lots of other good things happened too, like we learnt that four-time World Champion Mark Richards regularly reads This Week In Surfing (hi Mr. Richards). These things happened too.

Last weekend Courtney Conlogue here took out the lastest Women's World tour event in Taranaki New Zealand, churr!

Last weekend Courtney Conlogue here took out the lastest Women's World tour event in Taranaki New Zealand, churr!

1. Noa Deane DoesThe Surfs

We've said before that Noa Deane gets better with every clip that gets released of him, and this three minute edit is a perfect example of that. Some fantastic rail surfing, accentuated by some big ol' airs and one serious wave at Backdoor Pipe. Noa Deane just levelled up once again.

2. Jim Beam Surftag

On Sunday North Narrabeen took out the 2013 Jim Beam Surftag Australian Championships in super fun D-Bah. Read our interview with Davey Cathels about it here: Coastalwatch | Coastalwatch Plus. And watch the highlights from the entertaining comp now:

3. Dusty's win

A sweet little edit from Dusty's win at the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro a few weeks back. It's all pretty good surf stuff until the end when you see Mason Ho hand him a bottle of wine in congratulations and just how much all this means to Dusty. Geeze, could almost put a little salty tear in your eye. Cough, well done Dusty. Well done mate.

4. Besides Way of The Ocean

Way of The Ocean was a film relesed by Matt Kleiner last year. It was a solid film of good Australian surfing that probably didn't get the hype it deserved. Since it's arrival he's been peppering the internet with B-side edits that are such high quality that we should all be hunting down another copy of the original film. This is B-Side no.4. Top Notch.

5. Raw Teahupoo

40 minutes of high action from the most photogenic wave in the world. Cheers.

6. Owen Wright's Anatomy

Indoek (cool surf blog/shop) made this video about all the dimensions of Owen Wright's physique, a concept that sounds kinda boring, but done so damn well here that it is actually really really cool.

7. Steph Gilmore to CNN

Our Steph was on CNN talking about surfing. I think we should start calling her our Steph, like wider Australia does for endearing Olympic athletes. Yeah, good idea guys!*high five* Anyway, she spoke really well about the image surfers have thanks to the sterotyping seen in Hollywood and the like. That's our Steph. Read the article here.

8. Epokhe Beauty Pockets

Kai Neville, Mitch Coleborn and Dion Agius started a sunglasses company in the last 12 months, Epokhe (pronounced epocky). This is their first short film, high in beautiful scenery and slow motion high quality surfing. Low on cutting straight to the surf porn.

9. The Oakley Team Hold Their Breath

Watch Tom Whitaker hold his breath for over five minutes. Tommy Whits! More like Tommy… can't think of a joke. amirite?

10. Billabong...

The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that Billabong "has slumped as much as 30 per cent to a record low after entering talks on a $287 million takeover".

To which Billabong peeps apparently reacted like:

And everyone else reacted like:

Read all about it here.

Bonus 11th Thing...

Unless you're like Nick Carroll, and you were a professional surfer, and your brother became a world champion twice over, being a surf magazine guy is often an awkward awkward business. Just look at this photo Surfing World Editor Vaughan Blakey got with their most recent page 1, Kelly Slater... Beautiful.

Enjoy your weekends. CW out.
