Ten Things Surfing Gave The Internet This Week
Presented by Pete Smith

We did it guys! We made it to the end of another week! Let's take a moment to congratulate ourselves. Maybe eat a piece of chocolate, or drink some milk straight from the carton. Celebrate the little victories, we deserve it. Also, let's check out the best surf-related things from the internet this past week. It's not going to be Monday for ages!

The legendary Andy Irons out at the legendary Shipasterns Bluff. Legendary squared.

1. Vintage Shipsterns

In which Andy Irons, Parko, and a baby-faced Laurie Towner get some absolute bombs at Shippies. Our favourite video of the week. We'll let the man behind the lens, Dave Otto, tell the story:

"The back story of this day is a cracker. The local crew had just started towing Shipsterns when Billabong decided to bring their A-Team down for a photoshoot. It was an all star cast including Andy Irons, Parko, Margo, Laurie Towner and Dylan Longbottom.

Billabong hired the boat usually reserved for the locals and smugly rocked up thinking they had their exclusive shoot. What they didn't know was that the local photogs were a tad pissed about this arrangement and had organised a 15ft tinny the night before. The only instruction offered to our local boat driver Harry was to "get our boat closer than theirs". This arrangement led to some pretty hairy moments but it also provided some unforgettable memories. I'll never forget the wave AI got that day or the fact that Harry had us close enough that we could pretty much reach out and high five Andy while he was still in the barrel. It was a classic day and one of a select few that has established the folklore of Shipstern Bluff.

This footage is rough, raw and unscripted. There is no music, just ambient noise and it may offend some. Please take it for what it is, a small peak into history without any editing."

2. Jake Sylvester Is The Australian Junior Champ

Young Novacastrian Jake Sylvester has claimed the ASP Australasia Pro Junior Championship for 2013 after winning his first heat at the Be The Influence Surf Pro Coffs Harbour today. After winning the first two events of the series Sylvester looked likely to take title from the outset of the junior event season. What a legend!

3. Raglan Selfie With Luke Cederman

In which the Kiwi goofy films himself in some perfect Raglan, and makes you ask yourself: "Why am I sitting here in an office staring at a computer... I should be out somewhere... living... sigh."

4. Julian Wins Mr. Price Pro, Ballito

The Sunshine Coast superstar beat homecountry hero Jordan Smith in the final of the South African Prime event earlier this week. Notable performances also by Mitch Crews and Stu Kennedy who netted some all important ranking points to qualify for the World Tour next year.

5. Next Gen Does Surfing

Byron Young, Free, Alright! filmmaker Kaius Potter took a bunch of mega-froth-lord-grom-legends in town for the Skullcandy Oz Grom Open and cut together this clip.

6. Alex Knost In Bali

I had a dream the other night. I had a dream that I surfed like Alex Knost. I had a dream that I surfed like Alex Knost and some people didn't understand why it was so great. I had a dream that I surfed like Alex Knost and some people didn't understand why it was so great but I didn't care. I didn't care because I surfed like Alex Knost and I was having the best time ever. Then I woke up and I couldn't surf like Alex Knost and I was sad...

7. Jack and His Girl

Yeeeeaaaaaah Jack Lynch... he surfed Crescent Head with his girlfriend at Crescent Head last week and Josh Simpson made this great clip around it.

8. Roxy Part 2 – The Signing of Steph

Remember all that rabble about that Roxy Biarritz clip last week. Turns out it was all a lead up to the official signing of Steph Gilmore to Roxy.

9. Laura Trailer

The official trailer for Laura Enever's web series. If I was a 14 year-old girl this would probably be my favourite thing on the internet ever... in fact, I'm a 27 year old man and it's probably in my top 3 (behind Keyboard Cat and Kittens Inspired By Kittens – google that shiz)

10. Bodysurfing Tips with Keith Malloy

And Mark Cunningham! This video made by our friends at Korduroy TV has got us so stoked and inspired. Throw away your surfboards! Whomp with us at South Narrabeen and Woolamai and Kurrawa and Scarborough shorey!

Bonus...

Speaking of how to clips... how to wax your surfboard. This Youtube clip is so long overdue!

And that was this week in surfing. CW out.
