Ten Things Surfing Gave The Internet This Week
Presented by The Summer of George

What a week hey... Rasta gave us five essential tips for great bodysurfing (to read, click your link: Coastalwatch | Coastalwatch Plus), Tyler Bell was our newest Young, Free, Alright! legend (to see his clips, click your link: Coastalwatch | Coastalwatch Plus), Craig Anderson premiered his much anticipated movie directed by Dane Reynolds at the US Open, while our old pal Mitch Crews secretly won the trials to the Hurley Trestles Pro, the bloody legend. And all this happened while the editorial team at Coastalwatch spent all week pitching (unsuccessfully) for a surf cam outside London's St Mary's Hospital... ridiculous. Anyway, ten things:

The venue for the US Open of Surfing. Remember when Hobie Buchannon tried to shoot the pier on Baywatch that time? No... ok.

1. The Circus Returns To Huntington

The Vans US Open of Surfing, the biggest circus in our sport/culture's community, is off and running. Your team here at Coastalwatch have never been, but we imagine it to be kind of like the Royal Geelong Show, only less animals, and a tiny bit more surfing... maybe. It's a Prime event for the boys and a WT event for the girls, but there's a lot to get through, so expect to see surfers hold trophies and cheques around Monday Australian time.

2. Youthless

Billabong have finally released this very good grom film starring their excellent grom team. Well worth your 18 minutes, grom or not.

3. Jamie O'Brien Board Transfer Insanity

Watch Jamie-O attempt the gnarliest board transfer ever... Incredible.

4. Pond Cover Bali Waters

Have a listen to this fantastic cover of Taman Shud's Bali Waters by the most excellent Perth psych band Pond. They covered the track for Spirit of Akasha, the Morning of The Earth tribute film Andrew Kidman is creating with Albe Falzon. It's going to be amazing. 5. The Fortune Wild trailer (Canadian Surf flick)

Pete Devries and some grizzly bears star in this new film. The trailer's description says, "In The Fortune Wild a small group of surfers set out to seek their own kind of riches on some of the most remote beaches of the Canadian coast." Count us the hell in, this looks like a great movie.

6. Kelly Describes Getting barrelled

The greatest surfer ever describes the feeling of greatest feat for any surfer ever (for HBO Sport).

7. Djingo Morrison

Speaking of getting barrelled, wow. Dean Morrison can better than most.

8. Nathan Fletcher's Teahupoo Moment

If you had to list the most iconic single waves ridden in surfing's history, where would this sit? Top 10? Top 3? No.1? It's up there.

9. Brent Dorrington's Morning at D-Bah

How good are dawn surfs in Winter? Brenno knows!

10. Alex Grey River Surfs Wyoming

Doesn't this look like almost the most fun ever? Nearly as fun as Battle on Mario Kart 64... nearly. Alex Grey continues to master the art of the surf web clip with this fun number.

Bonus...

Dan Malloy has released a trailer for a... book? Interesting. How good would it be to do something like this? Grab a bike, some boards, some tents and just go for it. Who's keen to join us on one of these this summer, but just from, like, D-Bah to Rainbow or something... we're a tad out of shape.

And that was this week in surfing. Have a good weekend everyone. CW out.
