Ten Things...
Arranged by Mike Jennings

Feel that? Feel it? Feel anything? That's right! You're alive! We're alive! And we like surfing and it's great. Sally Fitzgibbons won the Roxy Pro in France two days ago and she felt more alive than ever. Carissa Moore didn't win and she too felt alive because her fight for the World Title remained a fight, and what is life without something to strive for? Nothing. So her and Tyler and the World Title race continues to live on and as we enter Grand Final weekend the Quikky Pro in France will simultaneously be getting underway and we, surfing and sport and internet fans, will be living! But first, ten things...

French beachbreaks are the best beachbreaks.

French beachbreaks are the best beachbreaks.

1. Sally Wins!

Yeah Sally Fitz! She took out the Roxy Pro France in a nerve-racking final with Tyler Wright, who notched a perfect 10 with a few minutes left, only for Sally to claw back the heat lead with the last meaningful wave of the event. Such a good contest. The win is Sally's first for the year in what has been a trying 2013 ASP season. Tyler Wright and Carissa Moore's World Title battle will end in Portugal in just over a week.

2. The Quiksilver Pro France Started

Last night the Quiksilver Pro France got underway in fun peaky 2-3 footers at Le Penon, completing all of Round 1 and half of Round 2. Other than the World Title contenders (Mick, Kelly, Taj, Jordy & Kelly), who are all into Round 3 and are all looking on fire, surfers to watch in the French beachies are Filipe Toledo, Kolohe, Kieran Perrow, Jeremy Flores and of course, Julian Wilson who has never looked more comfortable on the World Tour than right now (see his post heat interview? Breezy!) and is our pick to win the event.

Watch all the heats on demand over here, and below, Kelly on last year. Yay!

3. Nias Fires

Enough about European beachbreaks, now to some proper Indonesian fantasy! My lord...

4. Noa Deane Big Spin

The Cooly kid gets better and better...

5. Filipe Toledo's A Freak

The nifty young Brazillian's warm-up for the Quikky Pro was very exciting.

6. Criag & Dane, Dinner For Deux

Quikky released this trailer to a series around Craig and Dane in France that looks like it was maybe produced by Morgan Maassen. How great! The vibe of it is making me feel nostalgic for times I've never had (you know that feeling? There should be a word for that feeling). But what a duo Ando and Reynolds are becoming, a regular Simon and Garfunkel, a regular Lano and Woodley, a regular Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar!

7. Rip Curl Pro Portugal Trailer

The Euro Leg! We're in it! Remember how good this event was last year? Remember the controversial final? This year the Portugal event will have a heavier context in the ASP season being that the Cold Water Classic in Santa Cruz will not be a World Tour event, and only this event lies between now and a World Title showdown at Pipe.

8. Forever Sterling Spencer

I'm head of the class
I'm popular
I'm a quarter back
I'm popular
My mom says I'm a catch
I'm popular
I'm never last picked
I got a cheerleader chick – Popular by Nada Surf. No relevance to the below awesome clip.

9. Let's All Go To The Maldives

With Chippa and Benny Godwin and Joel Ford, because those guys are the best and it would be the most fun ever. Filmed expertly by rising filmmaking STAR Toby Cregan.

10. Fox Team At Lower Trestles

People don't often say the full name of waves that much anymore do they? Like, they just say Lowers, rather than Lower Trestles. Or Pipe, instead of Banzai Pipeline. Or Narra, instead of North Collaroy. Go Bede!

Bonus...
WIN A PAIR OF OAKLEY BREADBOX SHADES!

About a month ago there was a solar or lunar or whatever eclipse and I was driving to work and I forgot my sunglasses and it was horrible. I almost ran about four red lights and at one point a really bad song came on the car radio. The air-conditioning was broken and I sat at a red light sweating, squinting, and thinking to myelf, "I bet you Julian Wilson doesn't have this problem, I bet you he wears a sweet pair of shades when he drives to his office job during a solar or lunar or whatever eclipse while Birds of Tokyo are playing." It was a life-changing realisation for sure.

...anyway, to win this pair of slick looking eyeball protectors e-mail competitions@coastalwatch.com with the cheesiest surfing-related joke you know (plus an Australian postal address). The cheesiest entry gets the shades. Yeeew!

And that was this week in surfing. Have a good weekend. CW out.
