Know your Rights: The best Rights in the Maldives turn on

When it comes to Maldives content, more often than not the focus is on the fun, well-known left-handers in the Nth Male Atoll region, breaks like Lohis and Pasta Point, highly rippable lefts that are generally quite consistent.

Last week an easy to surf right – Sultans was in the limelight when Taj Burrows, Rob Machado and friends visited for the Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy.

This past week, a couple of slightly less publicised rights have really been firing. One particular set up just south of Male – Kandooma has been lapping up the SE swell direction.

Any swell with more east in it – less than 150 degrees – will see the majority of breaks south of Male fire up.

The Perfect Wave’s surf guide Jinu Ahmed said, “Yesterday was around 4-5ft with the occasional six footer at Kandooma. I surfed Tucky Joes this afternoon which was good with five-foot waves and some bomb sets (see photos below). The wind is looking even better for the next few days and the swell only gradually easing through the week, but still very rippable and the good news is it looks to be picking up later on again next week. It has been a great season to date.”

Just in case you’re wondering, Cokes up in the Nth Male Atolls was absolutely pumping with some 6-8ft sets at times. Where would you rather be?
