This Is What Mentawai Islands Were like This June

It was a memorable month for the Sumatran Islands

It was a hard job selecting the best photos from June. Hundreds of awesome images and video content lit up the screens of World Surfaris and it was great to see everyone scoring, while we freeze our backsides off.

The crew from Mentawai Surf Charters began the month sailing from Telo Islands and heading North to their first of three trips in the Banyaks not far from Nias and the Hinako Islands. Not a single day passed during the month without a wave ridden somewhere in this region.

From fun to hollow, powerful waves. The long barrelling rights of Treasure Island – Banyaks, were a real highlight, and being aboard Star Koat 2 made the experience an absolute pleasure.

Further south in the Mentawais, waves like Greenbush were solid mid-month for about three days. The Hole was also on the agenda and is a world class wave when the solid south swells light up the coast.

Winds were light for most of the month. With the occasional run of bad weather and rain that lasted four days but didn’t interfere with the quality of waves being surfed.

Locking up the end of June with a huge smile in our faces and feeling of mission accomplished. Bring on July!
