Bondi Rescue Crew Score In the Mentawai's

A crew of Bronte Boys including a trio of Bondi Rescue lifeguards hit The Mentawai's mid June for a 10 day boat charter. A peaceful cruise around the islands was never an option with this crew as Machine like barrels and esky loads of Bintang guaranteed a fun vibe at most line ups.

A rocky crossing and a few days of left over wind swell was on the menu on the first few days of the trip, but a new ground swell and light, variable winds greeted the fired up crew at every stop for the rest of the trip.

Ryan "Whippit" Clark had the time of his life at HT's, throwing huge front side airs, leaving a table of souvenirs below the surface on the shallow surgeons table.

Lunch time was always gnarly. Far out you really had to get in quick cause the boys were always hungry. I lost count of how many times the call "Julie more eggs", "No worries boss" echoed throughout the "MV Oasis" corridors'.

Our crew pretty much tag teamed barrel after barrel and beating after beating, not a bad way to spend 10 days away from a cold Aussie winter.

Macaronis peaked on the morning of our arrival to the infamous bay. The first light check was a contrast to what was to come as a few guys returned from checking some of the outside breaks. Within minutes Luke "corpse" Smith was deep inside a perfect Macca's tube, arms spread wide. From that moment onwards you knew it was going to be an epic day. Dave Sevenson and Troy Stewert ruled the arvo session, pulling into some glassy low tide slabs on what would be the day of the trip.

Oh yeah and it just so happened to be state of origin night. Some how the boys managed to get the game hooked up on the big screen at Macaroni's Resort - the place pumped during its first taste of Origin madness. The suspense was too much with a regular 10 second delay due to the wireless connection, ensuring the place went crazy upon confirmed tries. Special thanks to Snakey and the Macca's crew for putting on a great night. Eleven guys on a 12 ft tinnie at 11pm was the equation for our ride back to the boat. Forty five minutes into the journey from hell, we were tracking up an 8 ft face 2km out to sea, convinced we were ok, with absolute trust in our tender who apparently had no idea and was totally lost. Survival instinct kicked in as 10 iPhones lit up the ocean and lead the way to our awaiting BBQ steaks. Life's good! It was an epic trip to The Ments, made oh so easy by the epic crew at The Perfect Wave Surf Experience.
