Be careful what you wish for because it all can come true in the Maldives.

Most of you know that the Maldives is a tropical island paradise. The water is warm, the skies generally clear, the water turquoise blue, the sand is bleached white and there are palm trees galore. It’s an incredible location for a surf holiday.

The reason surfers go back time and time again is for the fun, quality surfing you're guaranteed to experience. The waves are absolutely perfect and there’s something for everyone. There are cruisy walls, performance waves and peeling cylinders for all standards. Goofy or natural, the Maldives has it all.

The Perfect Wave’s photographer Andy Potts spent the first two weeks of May in the Maldives and compiled this mouth-watering clip for us upon his return last week. The following clip and photos are as current a surf report from the Maldives as can really be.

1988 World Surfing Champion Barton Lynch keeps going back every season for a reason. BL absolutely loves the Maldives. He and his wife Holly were aboard the Carpe Vita in the first week of May and stayed at Kandooma Resort last week and are absolutely frothing on the conditions they got.

BL said, “In the first week of May we scored consistent 2-6ft surf at a variety of spots as we travelled south from Male. We were blessed with amazingly light winds and the glassiest of conditions for the week.”

At Kandooma in the second week, it was perfect again with really light offshore winds and glassy conditions. The first couple days were 2-3ft and fun, then it got smaller but thankfully always surfable. Late in the week, the swell kicked up offering some super fun set waves that occasionally got into the 4ft range at Riptides.”

Bob McTavish was also in the Maldives last week, Bob said,” A few of us got our best wave ever” at Maroufs, and we had waves everyday from the get go… only in the Maldives with The Perfect wave can you nail it every time.”

Andy said,”Our plan in week one was to head south from Male. The forecast SW swell was starting to show, the peak of the swell on day four would show as 3-4ft @ 16 seconds with light to variable offshore winds, and the next day, and the next... easy 6ft+ perfect ruler edge, deepwater waves on tap all day, sunscreen required.”

“The second week of May delivered some left over swell from the previous week, however moderate and unfavourable winds were also showing on most close range forecasts.

The beauty of a boat charter and especially amongst a vast amount of islands like the Maldives, is that protection from the elements is never far away. We ended up surfing fun 3-5ft SE swell @ 12 seconds with light to moderate cross/offshore breezes. Two weeks in the Maldives with two to three surfs everyday with crowds you couldn't find at your local, a May mirage.”
