February was a huge month for us here at Aganoa Lodge Samoa. Renovations had been underway all summer and everything was finally coming together. A new look, a new van, a new dinner menu, some new staff but the same hollow right hand peaks on our doorstep. The very first guests arrived during one of Huey’s finest displays of perfection and the year began.

Consistent 2-4 foot swells have met ten-15 knot offshore winds for the majority of february so far. If you think you’ve got it tough when your sitting in school or work watching the webcams, try painting beachfront fales while empty barrels spit at you 100 metres away as if to say, “What the hell are you doing in there and not out here?”

Fortunately the waves stayed pumping long enough for us to be able to reward our hard work and even admire what we’ve done from inside a throaty right hand bowl. I'd say the size of the waves was considered fun but thats exactly what we needed to ease ourselves into the imminent south swells we will receive in the near future.

We also got to make great use of our more user friendly wave, Litte Lefts, with shortboards, SUPs and mals enjoying cruising down the line without a care in the world as if “island time” existed in the line-up.

While this reliable south swell continues to impress us, there is another north swell on the way meaning we will have waves on our north, east and south coasts. February has been an excellent start to what will be an exciting year at Aganoa Lodge Samoa. The only question is, where do we surf tomorrow?
