Video & Gallery: Daydreaming Back to a Mentawai Boat Trip In October
Words, photos and video by Andy Potts
It’s the new year, which means the new Indo season is just around the corner. There’s been little to get excited about wave wise on the east coast of Aus, so here’s a look back at a little trip Andy Potts from The Perfect Wave did on the Oasis back in late Sept.
The ten year anniversary trip of the Oasis surf charter went down in late September with a full crew and a fun sized forecast on the cards. Day one was a little surreal with no boats around and a building three-to-four foot swell offering some great waves at Icelands all to ourselves. We headed south from the tip of Sipura down to Lance’s left for a few days and enjoyed consistent offshore two-to-four foot glassy walls with the occasional tube on offer.
Our mid-trip adventure would include two super fun days at Macaronis before making our way even further south to score a small pulse at Roxys and Thunders. Even with a few boats around, the vibe was super chilled and laid back as Filipe Toledo rolled into town and put on a wave riding spectacle for all the boats and guests... amazing!
The last few days of the trip were spent slowly making our way back up north to Lance’s Right with a few stops along the way. Plenty of tasty fish, cold Bintangs and great stories were shared on the trip, it was great to finish ten years of Mentawai adventures onboard the Oasis with another epic trip.
