Felicity Palmateer On: Making History Surfing In The First Big Wave Final

And there they were, sitting in the line-up with their nine-plus feet gun surfboards. Twelve women, some who surf big waves all year round and others who were there just giving it a good righteous go. They were there in the channel of one of the biggest waves on the planet, Pe'ahi on the west coast of Maui with the guys waiting for the siren to sound and their heat to go. Go they did. Felicity Palmateer is originally from Margaret River and has spent a lot of time among the Western Australian big waves, her phone rang three weeks ago and there was no way she was hesitating getting on that plane to Hawaii. Here's her story.
